Rabbi Akkiva (1st century AD)
The deepest reality of our lives is that we desire to love and be loved. The desire to be securely attached to our caregivers (parents) is apparent from birth and clearly embedded within the fabric of our being. This longing for attachment love is fundamental to what it means to be human. And yet, we can struggle to live in ways that we open ourselves to love and freely give love to others. In the Old Testament writings, the struggle to develop and form secure, loving attachments was clear among the people of God as they pursued love outside their created design. Song of Songs was written to address this core human need to love and be loved.
Living as the Beloved is a 7 week daily devotional offering reflections and insights into this ancient text and also inviting reflection and prayer as a response.
